L.222

One of the rarest Wild & Wessel lamps, which are almost never offered on eBay. These lamps with the characteristic shade must be very rare indeed; in all these years I haven't seen a single one on eBay, except for this lamp here, which was even offered complete with all original W&W parts. Incredible luck!

The original fabric border was later replaced with glass fringes. However, as these fringes were chosen carefully and in a colour that matched beautifully, I left them on. The only downer of the lamp is the broken font, but it has been well glued. The entire lamp is extremely intricate to assemble. Parts made of copper sheet are assembled together with black painted wrought iron parts and formerly copper-plated brass screws to form a gothic style. I had to disassemble it for cleaning.

The iron inner shell in the vase was partly badly rusted. I had to spend a long time sawing it out of the vase. In order to reattach the vase to the column and screw it tight, I had to build my own threaded brass construction. I decoloured all iron parts in caustic soda, carefully sanded them, pre-treated them with Hammerite rust converter and painted them with Revell black paint (SM 302). I carefully cleaned and polished all copper parts.

The shade carrier was broken several times in the upper part and soldered with an additional ring. I removed this ring and repaired the rest.

This lamp is one of the rare, exceptional lamps in my collection.
