L.361
A French lamp, very striking due to its intense colours, with a Chinese (or Japanese?) Cloisonné vase with the typical brass contours from France. Vase and lamp probably made around 1890-1900.
I was immediately fascinated by this Cloisonné lamp. I could not buy it at first because I was outbid by someone. The seller then had to list it again on eBay, as the person who had bought the lamp had not refunded the purchase price. In the second attempt, I got the lamp, and at a much lower price than in the first auction. I guess the lamp wanted to come to me...
The vase captivates with its differently coloured flower medallions on an intense blue background. The foot and neck area of the vase are also very beautifully decorated.
The lamp was once electrified, because the font had a hole at the bottom that was carefully soldered shut. The Cloisonné vase has also been subsequently perforated for the threaded rod. All the metal mounts fit the vase very well and exactly.
As a shade, the beautifully painted Art Nouveau tulip from the Harrachsche Glasfabrik was a perfect match for the lamp. The tulip shade is assigned to the Harrach glass factory by an identically painted vase in the exhibition catalogue "Glas der Moderne", pages 98-99.
