L.282
A Parisienne lamp from France with an unusual glass bead hanging that may have been added later. The lamp is illustrated in a catalogue of the French mail order company Manufrance from the early 1920's. Manufrance is the official abbreviation of "Manufacture française d'armes & cycles" (= French manufacture of guns and bicycles) in Saint-Étienne near Loire. In the catalogue, the lamp is shown with the traditional, single-coloured strands of pearls. Date of origin around 1920.
This lamp was found in the antique market in Strasbourg. The lamp shone and glittered even from a distance. It was beautifully cleaned.
The shade is the original shade with the same decorations. The glass bead hanging is not very accurate (some strands are longer than the others; also the spacing of the individual strands is not always quite the same), but with two different colours, in gold and black, it matches the shiny gold lamp very well.
The wick tube of the own burner (SI Paris) was completely defective. I used an older Gaudard burner as a replacement.
