A luxurious and unusually shaped lamp by R. Ditmar, completely different from the usual zinc cast lamps. It is not shown in the 1897 catalogue. However, a very luxurious double lamp is shown there (no. 7697), whose metal-mounted fonts are similar to this lamp. The elaborate workmanship and the decorative elements in the historicist style rather point to 1880-1890 as the period of origin.

When I unscrewed the lamp, the Ditmar logo was revealed under the cast zinc base. Even more: Ditmar's paper label with the number 6948 was stuck on the iron weight.

I had to clean the cast zinc lamp body. This revealed the original bronzing, of which there is little left. Nevertheless, I will refrain from bronzing it myself for the time being.

The tulip shade supplied was a completely unsuitable shade from SVE for electric lamps. After a long search, I found an old French ball shade that fits very snugly on the burner and makes an additional globe holder unnecessary.

This has resulted in a beautiful old Ditmar lamp that is a pleasant departure from the usual zinc cast scheme.

Lamp body of ornamentally openworked cast zinc, bronzed, top with 4 arms and a ring enclosing the font. Base Ø 140 mm. Width with the arms 187 mm. Foot marked at the bottom with the logo Ditmar. Under the foot an iron weight with a paper label of Ditmar (No. 6948).
Font of yellowish-green transparent glass, screwed in, removable, Ø 128 mm. Old brass undermount with wide thread, 23,4 mm. Font collar with Ditmar decoration.

Burner:
15’’’ Jupiter burner of R. Ditmar, Vienna.
Wick knob marked: R. Ditmar Wien (logo of R. Ditmar).
Flat wick 67 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 260 mm, Ø fitter 53 mm.
Marked: Cristal Prima Boheems Glas 14'''.

Shade and shade holder:
Ball shade, colourless glass, frosted inside, vertically wide ribbed, 2 brass rings, without slip fitter.
Height 158 mm, Ø bottom opening 56 and bulge 176 mm.
Globe holder not necessary.

Height up to collar 24.8 cm, total height with chimney 55.4 cm.
