A completely unusual find on eBay USA! A thoroughly European lamp was offered for sale there. The German Kosmos burner had Chinese characters on the wick knob. The lamp was probably bought in China at the end of the 19th century and came to the USA with Chinese emigrants. And from there it made the journey home to Germany... Whether this actually happened can no longer be found out; but it is conceivable.

The base and column as well as the removable font are made of Bohemian glass, overlaid or stained ruby red and elaborately ornamentally cut. It is the first time I have ever seen this type of lamp. The glass is a little more scratched at the base, but this is not very disturbing. The font and the foot are held together with a threaded rod. I had to carefully saw out the nut at the end of the threaded rod because it was very rusted. After cleaning it, I was able to fit a very well fitting brass washer with a new nut.

The assignment of the burner with the Chinese characters to Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse is due to the fact that an almost identical wick knob was assigned by G. Bruder to this manufacturer.

The carmine-red tulip shade from the American glass manufacturer Fenton suits the lamp exceptionally well in terms of colour. It captivates with diagonal white stripes. The upper half is overlaid with white. It is not uranium glass. In order to attach it to the lamp, I had to put an additional globe holder on the small globe holder (for 10''' Kosmos burners; probably handmade) of the lamp.
