L.189

A pure Art Nouveau lamp by the Hungarian lamp manufacturer Lámpa-Gyár in Budapest. It is shown in the catalogues of this producer with a Vesta shade. Dr. Touché described it in his book as a German lamp, but this is incorrect.

The lamp captivates with its very stylish lines in perfect Art Nouveau style. A design for a simple table lamp could hardly be more beautiful. It is actually a "handle lamp", because it has a wide handle, which together with the foot provides a stable stand. It is also a table lamp, because it is designed to be placed on the table wherever you need light.

Unfortunately, the font has a few small dents, but they don't bother me too much. There was also a hole at the bottom, which was later soldered shut. The lamp was probably electrified in the past.

I had to replace the 15’’’ Matador burner from Gaudard that came with it, because I had to use a much larger tulip shade for it, but it might not harmonise well with the beautiful lamp. So I decided to use a 14-line Kosmos burner.

I found an Art Nouveau tulip shade to match this beautiful Art Nouveau lamp in every way, which takes up the lines and colour of the lamp body with playful ease. This tulip shade is pictured in the catalogue of S.V.E. in Paris. On closer inspection, one notices that the drawing and painting of the tulip shade was done with a sketchy light hand. I think such a tulip shade suits this lamp much better than the Vesta shade shown in the catalogue.
