L.136

A smaller lamp by R. Ditmar with a small flat burner, made ca. 1880-1885. The reason for buying this rather simple lamp was the authentic old painted Vesta shade that I had intended for another lamp. But I had misjudged the dimensions; so the Vesta shade remained on the lamp and the lamp in my collection.

In the Ditmar catalogue of 1897, both the font (no. 7081) and the base (lamp 6539) are illustrated. In the case of my lamp, the foot has been combined with the smaller font, which does not look quite harmonious.

The supplied 8’’’ flat burner had no cap. So I replaced the burner with a 5''' flat burner from Ditmar, for which I even had the matching chimney.

The Vesta shade is old (flat rolled top edge). The painting is somewhat rubbed off. The pinkish-reddish tint of the shade and the font colour unfortunately do not match well. Nevertheless, I will keep this lamp in my collection as an authentic Ditmar lamp from around 1880.
