A British pillar lamp that could hardly be more British. A very classic Corinthian column made of ribbed sheet brass on a square, unadorned base. Today I am a little surprised that I was so enthusiastic about this type of lamp back then (8 years ago!).

The lamp came about because I had bought a beautiful, colourless, decoratively cut crystal font with an undermount thread of 23 mm and was now looking for a suitable lamp for it. It was to be a pillar lamp. However, for quite a while there was no column with a matching thread on offer. So when this column was offered on eBay Great Britain, I thought I had to strike now. Unfortunately, other collectors were also on the hunt, so the price was very high...

It is comforting, however, that the pedestal and column represent very solid English workmanship and match the font stylistically well. The Corinthian capital in particular is cast brass of the finest quality, although it took me some effort to clean it.

To complete the lamp, I chose a threaded Duplex burner, a very finely etched British ball shade and a marked Duplex chimney.
The lamp has thus become a very classic British pillar lamp. It is undoubtedly dignified, but also somewhat boring, as all similar British pillar lamps are: Dignified and noble, but restrained in form and ornamentation.

Base of brightly polished sheet brass without any ornamentation, multi-stepped, square, 152 x 152 mm, Ø 213 mm.
Column of vertically ribbed brass, marked at the bottom: Patent. Corinthian capital of cast brass. In the base a large iron weight.
Font of colourless, thoroughly cut crystal glass, Ø 155 mm, removable, undermount thread 23 mm.

Burner:
Duplex burner of an unknown producer, with extinguisher.
Two wick knobs marked: Duplex. Black glass inlays.
Two flat wicks, each 27 mm. Transport wick not provided.

Glass chimney:
Duplex chimney with oval bulge. Height 255 mm, Ø fitter 65 mm.
Marked: Fireproof Made in Czechoslovakia + anchor.

Shade and shade holder:
British ball shade, colourless glass, partly transparent, partly frosted, flat etched ornamentation, optically vertically ribbed.
Height 180 mm, Ø fitter 102 and bulge 192 mm.
100 mm globe holder for 20’’’ burners.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 52.6 cm, total height with chimney 82.5 cm.
Total weight 3250 g.
