L.299

A rare Wild & Wessel lamp with vase and font in mint green opal glass, with cast metal base and stylised handles. Dated probably 1870-1885. Formerly electrified (reversed by me).

A beautiful, imposing, rare Wild & Wessel lamp that is rarely offered. But the lamp was fully electrified with a continuous threaded tube. One had cut off the complete bottom of the font and sawed off the additional brass container in the middle! I also found damaged spots on the vase and the font, but they were not detracting and not noticeable from outside.

Fortunately, the smashed bottom of the font was still present at the edges, so I glued a new bottom made of a carefully sawn-off plexiglass disc with Stabilit® Express to the remaining edge of the original glass font. I extended the rest of the additional font container downwards with 4 thin brass bars and soldered it to the threaded rod I prepared from the former (electric) rod.

I was able to complete this admittedly rather damaged but still externally beautiful lamp in style with a 16 lines Agni burner from Wild & Wessel and with a marked 16’’’ Agni chimney (also from W&W). With an elongated, old tulip shade, the lamp was beautifully finished in a sublime way. Certainly an eye-catcher in my collection!
