L.066

A large lamp that was probably assembled from lamp parts of different lamps; thus a so-called "mariage" lamp. I suspect this because the base, vase and font are glued together. The lamp was offered as painted porcelain, which contributed to my decision to buy it.

When the lamp was delivered, I was disillusioned: the egg-shaped lamp body was unusually large and made of painted milk glass instead of porcelain! The size and shape are reminiscent of American GWTW lamps, but their vases have a much larger opening at the top to accommodate the usual 5 inch font. Here, a smaller tin font has been inserted and glued firmly to the brass collar.

The cast zinc base is most likely from another, older lamp. It seems relatively small compared to the large vase, so I supplemented and enlarged it with an additional base piece on four ornamentally cast dragon heads. As these 4 feet had been welded completely inconsistently, I first had to cut them off, and then screw them on with 3 screws each. To compensate for the considerable differences in height, I soldered nuts under the dragon heads and attached brass screws with 3.5 mm thread.

A 20’’’ Matador Modern was used as the burner. With this burner, the gallery and basket can be taken apart.

To match the large glass vase, I was able to purchase an American ball shade, the size and painting of which complemented the lamp well.
