L.326
A rather simple Art Nouveau/Art Déco lamp from about 1915-1920's in restrained elegance. I received this lamp from France and thought for a long time about whether it came from Germany or France. In the end I decided for Germany, because the original burner that came with it was from Hugo Schneider. Besides, lamps made entirely of brass are extremely rare in France. The French catalogues from 1900-1930 are still full of column lamps with a glass font.
The lamp has a very beautiful, striking pattern in Art Nouveau or Art Déco style. Such lamps were mainly produced by Kästner & Töbelmann. However, I did not find it in their existing catalogues from the Art Nouveau period. Either it was made later than 1910, or it is from another manufactory. The number 0778 on the iron weight also speaks for the second option; because K&T lamps usually have much larger numbers, if they are marked with numbers at all.
These lamps were usually fitted with incandescent burners. The white-light burner from K&T suited the slim shape of the lamp very well. I found a French tulip shade that goes very well with the Intern burner and the straight chimney, reflecting the simple elegance of the lamp. This tulip shade is illustrated in the S.V.E. catalogues 1910 and 1911.
