L.333

A Triumph lamp by Ehrich & Graetz, complete with the burner. Manufactured probably around 1900. The Triumph lamps were designed as hanging lamps that were inserted into corresponding hanging fixtures. They were intended for room lighting. For this reason, they do not have ordinary wick knobs, but a turning wheel, the shaft of which goes vertically directly into the font and can move the wick tube up and down with a worm thread. The rotating wheel was turned from below by means of strings hanging down.

My lamp, however, was either reworked into a stand-alone table lamp, or it was part of a French hanging lamp, where table lamps are inserted into the special hanging device (compare French hanging lamp L.028).

The lamp was already in very good condition. I only had to polish it a little. The original flame disc was still there, but the long, three-bladed attachment was missing. It was a good thing that I could take the complete flame disc from another burner that was not in use. So I could easily complete the burner. Luckily I could also find an original Triumph chimney for the lamp. Normal Matador chimneys with a slim bulge are not suitable for this burner.

I wanted to use an old Vesta shade here; however, I no longer had a suitable shade holder. I was horrified to discover that there is no longer a shade holder available for 20’’’ burners. I made a virtue of necessity by repairing a completely dilapidated shade holder and connecting it to a well-suited 85 mm globe holder.
