L.241

My very first and so far the only signed lamp from the famous Hungarian ceramic manufacturer Zsolnay in Pécs. Although quite small and possibly fitted with a non-original font lid, it is nevertheless very artistically executed.

The ceramic vase by Zsolnay is elaborately decorated with ornate openwork parts, which are even painted with gold on the inside. The vase is marked with the blue Zsolnay logo at the bottom, and the number 1064 is also blind-stamped. Further marks: 47 in blue and 61 handwritten in gold (painter's signature). The lamp is based on an ornamental vase (or even flower planter?) by Zsolnay, which can also be found on the internet. The base of the vase has been subsequently drilled and fitted with brass mounts. The font, too, is probably a later addition, because the lid is made of cast zinc, while the base is made of cast brass. But this lid with its playful rim somehow does fit the lamp quite well.

The supplied burner from SI Paris was fitted with a basket by Hugo Schneider. I was able to replace the basket with an original SI basket. The colourless tulip shade from eBay France also fits quite well here.

The zinc cast lid of the glass font had been recently sprayed with gold-coloured paint. I first primed it with dark shoe polish according to my method, and then bronzed it with brass wax (Laiton). The result is a relatively small but very artistically executed Zsolnay lamp.
