L.039

An opulent cast zinc lamp in the exuberant neo-rococo style of historicism; probably made after 1890. The entire lamp is exuberantly decorated in a rococo style that is rare in this playful form. The lamp is most likely from Germany.

I have bronzed this lamp only with copper wax and very carefully heightened it with gold wax (Or classique). I painted the oval bulged medallions with a darker colour to create a certain contrast and polished them with felt disc.

The burner supplied was an intact 20’’’ Matador burner. However, the flame disc was foreign, probably from Hugo Schneider. I therefore replaced the burner with a 20’’’ Augusta burner.

According to the shape, the tulip shade is by S. Reich. But it is probably a later production from Poland. The original shape had an angular cut top rim. The seller said that the lamp had been in the family for at least 40 years. Presumably, one could buy these imitation tulip shades from S. Reich even back then.

The tulip shade requires a 95 mm globe holder, which I don't have at hand at the moment. So I made a 100 mm globe holder with soldered brass pieces a little smaller and adapted it to the tulip shade.
