L.096

A German Art Nouveau lamp, completely preserved and completely authentic-original! The former owner (an acquaintance of ours) got the lamp from a family who must have had it in their possession for a very long time. Nothing had been changed on the lamp from the beginning. I only had to repair the burner briefly.

The lamp is made of brass decorated with strict Art Nouveau motifs. On three sides there are bars made of bronzed cast iron, which are also decorated with matching Art Nouveau motifs.

The burner is a 15 lines flame disc burner by Gebr. Wolff, with the inscription "Auto" on the wick knob (Auto burner; see Goldberg 1911). The chimney also bears the image of an old automobile from 1910-1920's. The lamp undoubtedly belongs to the late Art Nouveau period in Germany.

The Vesta shade is again in Art Nouveau shape, with a ruffled rim at the top, set off with a light green decorative strip of glass. Adding to the lamp's perfection are the original, undamaged green beaded fringes.

This lamp is one of the most precious in our collection, not only because of its complete original preservation, but also because of its reference to our friend who sadly passed away too soon, and I would like it to remain in our family as her legacy.
