L.360

A second Belgian center-draft lamp made of ornamentally embossed brass sheet by Louis Sépulchre in Liège. Made probably around 1890-1900.

This Sépulchre lamp is comparable in structure and decoration to my other Sépulchre lamp (L.280). Here a smaller vase has been combined with a longer column, which gives the lamp the appearance of a column lamp. The base with the paw-feet seems to be typical of Sépulchre, because it also appears on my other Sépulchre lamp.

The center-draft burner is identical for both lamps. However, this lamp has the original flame disc. From Sépulchre we also know other types of flame discs that differ fundamentally from the one shown here. This manufacturer was probably quite innovative in designing various types of flame discs. Presumably the respective burners were also different.

I installed a squat British tulip shade for gas lamps with beautiful flower motifs here, as it harmonizes well with the elongated, delicate lamp. However, this tulip has a fitter width of 110 mm in diamete. In order to be able to mount it on the lamp, I had to construct a globe holder of the right size from two different parts. The inner holder ring is a normal 100 mm globe holder, the outer part, on the other hand, is a shade holder for 125 mm glass shades.
