Unidentified Logos

Here I have compiled wick wheel logos that so far cannot be assigned to any clear burner manufacturer.

"Kosmos Brenner" as a Wick Knob Logo

Finally, I want to address a questionable wick knob logo that only includes the name "Kosmos Brenner" in different spelling variants. These are undoubtedly German burners, but their manufacturers are either unknown or at least questionable, as they are sometimes attributed to contradictory burner manufacturers (for example, wick knobs with the inscription "Kosmos Brenner" are attributed to BJB by Gerhard Bruder, while Werner Pempel gives Hugo Schneider as the manufacturer for the same wick knobs).

Hugo Schneider and Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse in particular come into question as manufacturers, as these companies existed until the Second World War and brought a very large number of cheaply made Kosmos burners onto the market. I was able to assign some of these burners to Wild & Wessel due to distinctive design features, but they were probably only manufactured after 1903, when the W&W company was acquired by Hugo Schneider.

It is incomprehensible to me why burner manufacturers did not impeccably label their products as their own and put them on the market with meaningless logos such as stars, meander patterns, word phrases like "Kosmos burner" or "Duplex". Were these just inferior, cheaply made burners that were only meant to serve the lowest quality segment of the lamp market and yet were not allowed to bring their manufacturer's reputation into disrepute? In the case of wick knobs that could be attributed to W&W, one could assume that they were manufactured after 1903 by Hugo Schneider from W&W's remaining stocks.

Be that as it may, there are the so-called "Kosmos Brenner" in my collection with a total of 5 different spellings:

a) „Kosmos=Brenner“
b) „Kosmos-Brenner“
c) „Kosmos Brenner“
d) „Kosmosbrenner“
e) „Kosmos“ and „Brenner“ in two lines

I compile the representatives of these versions in the following photos (NN = unidentified or questionable).

Type a) Logo „Kosmos=Brenner“ (the first three are from W&W):

Type b) Logo „Kosmos-Brenner“ (the first one is by W&W):

Type c) Logo „Kosmos Brenner“ (the last one is by BJB):

Typ d) Logo „Kosmosbrenner“ (of BJB):

Typ e) Logo „Kosmos Brenner“ in two lines (the last two belong to S&B und W&W):

Logos with "Reform Rund Brenner”

Schuster & Baer were the inventors of the Reform Kosmos burner. There are wick knobs from the Schuster & Baer Reform Kosmos burners with the logo inscriptions "Patent Reform-Rund-Brenner" and "Patent Reform-Kosmos-Brenner". These wick knobs always bear the initials of Schuster & Baer on their reverse side.

But there are also wick knobs with an identical or very similar appearance, but only with the inscription "Reform-Rund-Brenner" (i.e. without the word "Patent"). I have high-quality 14’’’ and 16’’’ Reform Kosmos burners with this logo; however, the initials of Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse (BJB) and of Hugo Schneider (HS) are sometimes stamped on the back of these wick knobs. There are also wick knobs that have no initials on their reverse side. Gerhard Bruder even states that this logo with "Reform-Rund-Brenner" was also used by Gebr. Wolff. Was Schuster & Baer taken over by other companies at some point? Were these burners manufactured by S&B for other companies? My attribution of this logo to Schuster & Baer may be wrong.

It is interesting to note that the Hugo Schneider’s version shows only 5 stars in a circle without the inner ring, while all other versions show 6 stars.

I also have 8’’’ Kosmos burners with the same logo, but probably from much later times, because the burners are relatively inferior with poorly embossed logo.
