L.033

This heavy, large pillar lamp is of French origin, even though it was fitted with a German burner. The Carl Holy burner was intended for the French market. All Carl Holy burners marketed in France uniformly bear the name "Odin" on their wick knobs, even though they are not Odin burners but Bürger, Elite and other Carl Holy burners.

The lamp is a first-class combination of elaborate brass base, beautifully turned onyx marble column and cut crystal font. The large Bürger burner by Carl Holy with gallery raiser further emphasises the lamp's value. All this results in a very elegant, high-quality lamp.

The column is made in the form of a Corinthian column. The base and the capital are made of fine cast brass. The beautiful, slightly convex column of very brightly banded onyx marble is without damage.

The tulip shade I bought for this lamp is a copy of old tulip shades from the S. Reich glassworks, which no longer exists. The glass makers use the old moulds for glass blowing to make these tulip shades in identical shape of their old models. The tulip shade is very solemnly etched and, in my opinion, goes very well with the rest of the lamp. Everything exudes a sublime solemnity and elegance. But the most beautiful thing is the burning performance: the burner burns very brightly and absolutely still, so that you think you have mounted an electric light bulb. The tulip shade then shines in all its beauty!
