I bought this very classic French pillar lamp because it had a column of a beautiful green onyx marble and the cast brass metal mounts were in perfectly clean condition (possibly gilded).

This type of lamp construction is very typical of medium sized pillar lamps from France. The previously common marble plinth under the column base was replaced here with a brass section, also square, which was cast together with the base.

The brass mounts were completely clean, not tarnished at all. The entire lamp made a completely new, never used impression. At most, the font, which has a shiny metallic finish, had some dirt in it, and the font collar had traces of kerosene/paraffin contamination.

I completed the lamp with a 15’’’ Polarstern burner, a matching chimney and a tulip shade, which harmonises very well with the rest of the lamp in terms of colour. It is a production from the second half of the 20th century, probably from the Czech Republic or Poland. I think it complements the lamp very well.

Wick knob marked: Logo of Hugo Schneider. Black glass inlay.
Wick knob ring marked: 15''' Bec Polaire.  
Flat wick 69 mm.

Glass chimney:
15’’’ Matador chimney. Height 270 mm, Ø fitter 53 mm.
Marked: Spécial Recuit Made in France 15''' + crown in garland.

Shade and shade holder:
Tulip shade, light brown glass, frosted, almost colourless at the bottom, flat transparent floral motifs, top rim fluted. Production from Poland or the Czech Republic, second half of the 20th century.
Height 188 mm, Ø fitter 86 and bulge 154 mm.
85 mm globe holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners.
