A beautiful, harmonious, and also high quality German majolica lamp, complete with painted Vesta shade and Reform Kosmos burner, which is relatively rare on eBay. The lamp was made around 1905-1910.

The lamp is a make of the Dresden company Kretzschmar, Bösenberg & Co. and it is also marked as such below. This makes it one of the rare German majolica lamps that are signed. As it was offered complete with a beautiful painted Vesta shade from the same period, the decision to buy this lamp at auction was very easy for me. The entire lamp seems to me to be completely authentic. The burner is also from the same Dresden company.

I have replaced the supplied Kosmos chimney with a Kalthoff chimney, as I previously mistakenly thought that the Reform Kosmos burners had to be operated with Kalthoff chimneys.

All in all, a solid, complete, probably authentic-original Art Nouveau lamp, which is a prime example of beautiful majolica lamps from German production.

Lamp body:
Base of painted majolica, finished at the bottom with a brass base (marked at the bottom: K.B.& Co. Dresden), Ø 154 mm. In the base an iron weight, marked: B & C. Between base and vase a connector of profiled brass sheet.
Vase made of painted majolica (inside stamped: 15334), top closed with a brass ring, vase Ø 145 mm.
Drop-in font of transparent, colourless glass, cemented under majolica lid. Lid Ø 127 mm.

Burner:
14’’’ Reform Kosmos burner of Kretzschmar & Bösenberg, Dresden, soldered to the shade holder.
Wick knob marked: Logo of Kretzschmar & Bösenberg. Black glass insert.
Flat wick 67 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kalthoff chimney. Height 278 mm, Ø fitter 53 mm.
Marked: Kalthoff-Cylinder Gesetzlich geschützt 14''' + K. Lampen Cylinder Kalthoff in a star circle.

Shade and shade holder:
Vesta shade, white milk glass, painted flowers, upper rim fluted and ruffled in skirt shape.
Height 195 mm, Ø fitter 236 and bulge 259 mm.
235 mm shade holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners, soldered to the burner.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 22.2 cm, total height with chimney 53.5 cm.
Total weight 2400 g.
