L.201

A decorative German glass lamp with painted vase and finely cast zinc mounts. The zinc castings stylistically belong more to Historicism, while the glass vase is painted with stylised flowers in Art Déco style. Therefore, one can assume that the lamp was assembled from different lamp parts, which, however, fit very well into each other. This assumption is also supported by the fact that zinc castings were partly differently coloured.

The burner supplied is from the Dresden manufactory Kretzschmar, Bösenberg & Co. The lamp was also delivered from Dresden. It could be that the lamp as a whole comes from this lamp manufactory. But this remains only a conjecture.

The interesting vase is painted in an Art Déco style with stylised flowers in earthy colours on a grey background. It is also unusual in its material: it is made of glass that has been coated on the inside with terracotta layer. It is finished at the top with a decorative ring made of cast zinc.

I replaced the cracked glass font, which had been taped with adhesive tape, with another glass font that was still cemented under a majolica lid. To do this, I carefully removed the font from the majolica lid.

The font lid of the lamp made of cast zinc is probably a foreign product, because it did not sit properly in the recess of the cast zinc vase end. However, I was able to sand down the top ring a little and it now sits correctly. The ornamentation fits well with the rest of the lamp.

The base and the wide ring on the vase have been painted in two different colours (silver and brownish bronze). But underneath they are galvanically bronzed. I bronzed all the metal parts uniformly with gold wax (Or classique) according to my method.

Lastly, I was able to find a beautiful Vesta shade in Art Nouveau form that harmonises well with the vase painting.
