L.211

A German majolica lamp from the Art Nouveau period, made around 1900-1915. When I first saw this lamp on eBay, I thought to myself that it looked nice but didn't stand out much from other majolica lamps in my collection except for its rare burner. That's why I didn't plan to buy this lamp at first. When I looked at the lamp again a few days later, I found out that it was offered by an antique dealer in Marburg. I studied chemistry in Marburg and have a strong connection with this beautiful city. Then my decision was quickly made and I bought the lamp immediately as a souvenir.

The lamp is in a well-maintained condition; the majolica parts have no damage and the golden trim lines are mostly still intact. I only had to remove the patina from the brass parts with steel wool.

I then exchanged the supplied Maxum burner (white-light burner) of Eckel & Glinicke with a Matador burner, because the extended basket of the Maxum burner extended the lamp body upwards in an unfavourable way; the shade sat quite high up, the proportions of the lamp were not harmonious. Here I used an export burner with extinguisher from E&G.

For the shade, I was able to find a Vesta shade painted with stylised tulips, which matches the rest of the majolica painting perfectly, as if the shade had been made especially for this lamp.
