A thoroughbred Art Nouveau lamp by Kästner & Töbelmann, also shown in the catalogues. Probably manufactured around 1905.

The majolica lamp is painted in strong colours in the pure Art Nouveau style. The Art Nouveau motif with stylised leaves and blossoms in dark red, pink and light green stands on a dark green background. This lamp is illustrated in the Kästner & Töbelmann catalogue no.7 as lamp no. 5732. It can also be seen in the catalogue 1908 of Lámpa Gyár in Budapest.

The base is made of fine cast zinc, which was subsequently painted over with bronze paint. This paint was relatively dull and needed freshening. I applied new brass paint in two shades and patinated it with tinted shoe polish.

I replaced the supplied burner from Hugo Schneider with a K&T burner. Sometime later, I managed to acquire a painted Vesta shade in Art Nouveau style, which harmonises well with the size of the lamp.

Cleaning and repairs:
The bronze colour of the base renewed in two colours and patinated. The dented shade holder re-soldered and cleaned.

Base of multiple openwork zinc casting on 4 feet, lacquered with bronze paint, dark and dull, Ø 172 mm.
Vase of dark green majolica with relief motifs in red and pink, pure Art Nouveau, numbered at the bottom: 15503. Ø 161 mm.
Drop-in font of transparent glass, cemented under majolica lid matching the vase. Font lid Ø 129 mm.

Burner:
14’’’ Kosmos burner of Kästner & Töbelmann, Erfurt.
Wick knob marked: Logo of Kästner & Töbelmann. Black glass inlay.
Flat wick 65 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 263 mm, Ø fitter 53 mm.
Marked: 14''' + crown.

Shade and shade holder:
Vesta shade, white milk glass, Art Nouveau shape, painted floral garlands, fluted upper rim.
Height 184 mm, Ø fitter 232 and bulge 270 mm.
235 mm shade holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 25.5 cm, total height with chimney 55.7 cm.
Total weight 2420 g.
