A classic, medium-sized hanging lamp with a majolica lamp body in Art Nouveau style. The pattern and colouring of the majolica vase and font lid are in pure, beautiful Art Nouveau style. The rather strict expression of the Art Nouveau design is an indication of Germany or Austria/Hungary as possible countries of origin.

The majolica body of the lamp is the real attraction. The large Vesta shade with its playfully shaped neck area is also not common. It also features a green stripe on the top edge, which gives it an additional, cheerful touch. The entire hanging fixture has been sprayed with brass spray by a previous owner, and thus it shines golden. Horse heads can be seen on the ornamentally designed support arms. An old porcelain smoke bell hangs under the counterweight. The pull chains are unfortunately too short, so that the lamp has only a small margin for height adjustment.

I have fitted the lamp with a 20’’’ Matador burner with gallery lifter and extinguisher. The extinguisher tube of the burner was missing, so I constructed it myself (see Repairs - Working on Burners).

Lamp body:
Round, colourfully painted majolica vase in pure Art Nouveau style. Ø 158 mm. Connected with 3 supporting arms of multiple openwork cast iron with horse motifs via an additional metal ring. Decorated knob at the bottom for height adjustment.
Drop-in font of clear, colourless glass, cemented under majolica lid. Lid Ø 138 mm.
Hanging device of decorated cast iron parts, pull chains, counterweight and porcelain smoke bell. Lamp variable in height. Lamp total Ø 34 cm.

Burner:
20’’’ Matador burner of Ehrich & Graetz, Berlin, with gallery raiser and extinguisher, for the French market. Extinguisher tube constructed by me. Cable hole on basket.
Wick knob marked: Bec Star 20''' Importé.
Original flame disc, marked: Star logo of E&G.
Flat wick 87 mm, marked: Glück / 20''' Matador / Salvator / R.

Glass chimney:
20’’’ Matador chimney. Height 290 mm, Ø fitter 66 mm.
Marked: Cristall Matador 20''' + crown.

Shade and shade holder:
Vesta shade, white milk glass, upper rim fluted and frilled in skirt shape, with attached transparent green rim.
Height 215 mm, Ø fitter 278 and bulge 307 mm.
Ornate shade holder 280 mm of sheet brass, suspended in an ornate hanging device of cast iron with counterweight.

Total height 114 cm minimum, 125 cm maximum.
