A large brass pillar lamp with an intricately cut crystal font. Probably from Great Britain, which produced such pillar lamps with an unadorned square base and finely cut crystal font. However, the lamp came to me from France!

I had already bought a large tulip shade in almost cylindrical form from a seller in the Czech Republic during the first months of collecting. However, this tulip shade proved to be too big for all the lamps I bought at that time. So I was looking for a really big lamp until I found this column lamp. Unfortunately, it was electrified. The font had been separated from the glass peg at the bottom and neatly perforated so that a tube could be attached to run the cables. A larger washer had been attached to this tube, which held the font in place at the bottom. I soldered the opening of the tube at the top and sealed the disc with silicone so that no kerosene/paraffin could seep down.

The base is made of a very plain square brass casting. The long column is vertically ribbed and has a Corinthian capital. In an early electrification, two holes had been made in the base to run two cables up through the column.

I installed here a 20’’’ Agni burner, because the long pinch/ball chimney (new production from USA) has the right length to look out of the tulip shade.
