A porcelain lamp from Germany, which was probably produced for the British market, because this one and similar lamps often appear on eBay UK. Regardless of their porcelain marks, they are always referred to as “Porcelain from Sitzendorf”, which is often wrong. The manufacturer of these lamps is very often C.G. Schierholz & Sohn Porcelain Manufactory Plaue (Thuringia, 1865-1907). The signature of this manufacture consists of two double lines that cross each other.

The lamp consists of a porcelain vase which, coming out of the base, widens towards the top and takes on a 6-cornered, baroque shape. Two putti flank the vase, supposedly holding it at the top. On the wall of the vase there are many three-dimensional roses and leaves, unfortunately some of the leaf tips and rose petals were broken. In addition, a putto was missing 2 fingers and a wing tip; and an edge of the base was chipped off. Mr. Kühnel was able to restore all damaged areas excellently.

The burner is by Wild & Wessel, but manufactured for the British (and American) market, as it has "Made in Germany" on the wick knob instead of the usual "Kosmos".

Lamp made of a baroque-shaped porcelain vase with an upward hexagonal shape on a pedestal-like base (round Ø 120 mm).
Vase flanked by two putti and decorated with hand-painted rose petals and leaves. The golden paint is almost completely rubbed off. Signed at the bottom by Schierholz, Plaue, Thuringia (imprinted: 259 and 7).
Vase is also a font.

Burner:
10’’’ Kosmos burner of Wild & Wessel, Berlin, for export, soldered to the shade holder.
Wick knob marked: W&W - Made in Germany. Backside with the decorative cord of W&W.
Wick tube marked: 10’’’ Kosmos.
Flat wick 50 mm.

Glass chimney:
10’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 255 mm, Ø fitter 40 mm.
Marked: Logo of Wensel, Soest, Germany.

Shade and shade holder:
Vesta shade, white milk glass, flat rolled top rim.
Height 135 mm, Ø fitter 187 and bulge 200 mm.
190 mm shade holder for 10’’’ burners, soldered to the burner.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 16.6 cm, total height with chimney 43.2 cm.
Total weight 1240 g.
