L.125
One of my most extraordinary lamps! A natural horn (from which animal?) acts as a font carrier. This horn comes at an angle from a ram's head that is firmly screwed onto a block of marble. An animal scene made of silver-plated brass is mounted in the middle of the horn: 2 birds defend their eggs against a snake. This scene and the ram's head suggest that the lamp was commissioned by a hunter, a forest officer or a nature enthusiast. All metal parts are cast in very fine detail and silver-plated. The unusual choice of motif and the careful elaboration speak more for a commissioned work. The ornamental metal ring with which the glass font is placed on the horn is also entirely handcrafted. I therefore suspect that this lamp is unique.
Of course, I had to take everything apart, clean and polish metal parts, and re-cement the horn. I filled the broken back edge of the marble with Stabilit®.
Later I managed to find a suitable 6’’’ Kalthoff chimney (rare!). A small tulip shade of St. Louis completed this extraordinary lamp.
