A German piano lamp by C.A.Kleemann in Art Nouveau style, produced around 1910. This lamp is shown in the 1911 C.A.Kleemann catalogue: Model 626. It is there fitted with a cardboard shade.

The lamp still had the original Kleemann burner and the cardboard shade holder, but did not have a shade.

I had templates for a hexagonal cardboard shade with images of composers available. After digital processing, I had this template printed slightly enlarged on 200 g/m² cardboard. Then I made an exactly fitting metal frame from brass rods and glued the printed papers to it with Uhu. Finally, I sewed the 6 edges together crosswise with dark red thread to imitate the illustrations in the catalogues. The result was an authentic-looking piano lamp whose shade reflects the light downwards well, but only lets a little through at the sides.

Brass lamp body and side arm. Cast lead weight in the base. Bottom base cover of sheet iron. Brass filler neck. Base Ø 128 mm. Total depth 29 cm.

Burner:
14’’’ Kosmos burner of C.A.Kleemann, Erfurt, soldered to the shade carrier.
Wick knob marked: Logo of C.A.Kleemann.
Flat wick 65 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 233 mm, Ø fitter 52 mm.
Marked: Logo of Wensel, Soest.

Shade and shade holder:
Cardboard shade with images of composers, hexagonal, completely self-made.
Height 143 mm, Ø bottom edge 250 mm.
Original brass shade carrier with 3 arms carrying a brass ring at the top; soldered with the burner.
