A monumental, rare German hanging lamp by Schubert & Sorge in Leipzig. These huge hanging lamps are rarely offered on eBay. They are probably also found by only a few lamp collectors, as they take up a lot of space and are therefore not likely to be the focus of collectors. I got it from a collector friend who wanted to move and sold larger lamps on occasion. It is my only lamp with a 30-line burner.

The lamp consists of a finely made hanging device in the shape of a lyre. The lyre arms and shade are shown in the 1892 Schubert & Sorge catalogue; however, the basket is different there. At the top, the mighty shade is suspended from a metal frame and 10 flat glass panes. The entire metal suspension is made of brown lacquered iron. On the lyre, a small part has broken off at the support arm.

The font with the integrated burner is the Victoria Blitzlampe from Fr. Hoffmann in Sebnitz. These lamps were offered for hanging fixtures. I doubt whether the flame disc here is original from Fr. Hoffmann, because it is nickel-plated (while the rest of the burner and the font are in brass) and has a mighty eagle on top as a coat of arms.

I have completed the lamp with 50 newly purchased crystal prisms in accordance with the original.

Lamp body:
Lyre-shaped lamp body of cast iron with 2 arms and an openwork basket for the font (inner Ø 164 mm). On the top a ring to put on the shade and soot bell of metal.
Drop-in font made of brass sheet, central draft, integrated wick knob, extra filler with cap, marked: Welt Victoria Blitzlampe F.H. Extra font base that can be unscrewed. Some stress cracks and minor dents. Repairs with solder. Ø 180 mm, top part 157 mm.

Burner:
30’’’ center-draft burner for Blitz lamps by Fr. Hoffmann, Sebnitz. Thread 52,3 mm.
Wick knob marked: Ueber Land und Meer (Logo of Fr. Hoffmann).
Special flame disc for Blitz lamps, nickel-plated. Above: Eagle emblem.
Round wick Ø 40 mm.

Glass chimney:
30’’’ Matador chimney, slightly wider towards the top. Height 320 mm, Ø fitter 77 mm.
Marked: Crystal 30''' + crown.

Shade and shade holder:
Shade in iron frame with 10 flat, brown-yellow glass inserts by Schubert & Sorge. Decorated rim of sheet iron. With crystal hanging.
Height 130 mm, Ø 590 mm.
