An American glass lamp with a beautifully and discreetly painted glass vase. The lamp was offered without a burner. Although the seller had put many detailed photos and a good description of the lamp on eBay, hardly anyone was interested in the lamp; it came to me very cheaply. It is probably produced around 1890-1900. The simple font lid and the ornamental, finely cast brass base are difficult to date together. However, in the Bradley & Hubbard catalogue of 1888, very similar glass lamps are shown with bases of very ornamental cast brass and with font lids of completely simple stepped brass. This lamp, too, could also possibly be from B&H.

The vase is painted with beautiful daffodils on a light blue background; two flowers in the front and one in the back. The base is of fine cast brass. Both the base and the font lid are rather reddish brass.

The collar was in the #2 size. I was able to purchase an Eagle flat burner which, with its two threads, is suitable for both #2 and #3 collars. However, this burner needed a #3 chimney. The standard glass chimneys of this size have a bulge diameter of 100 mm and therefore do not allow normal tulip shades or ball shades. After a long search, I was able to find a new glass chimney with a narrow bulge (Ø 83 mm) and had the pleasure of putting on a yellow British tulip shade, which harmonises exceptionally well with the blue base colour of the vase.

Wick knob marked: Eagle Made in U.S.A.
Flat wick 32 mm.

Glass chimney:
USA #3 Vienna type chimney with slim bulge. Height 257 mm, Ø fitter 75 mm.
New production without brand.

Shade and shade holder:
British tulip shade, frosted glass, yellow at the top, lighter at the bottom, glowing red under UV-light, optically diagonally ribbed, upper rim fluted and frilled.
Height 153 mm, Ø fitter 100 and top rim 243 mm.
100 mm globe holder for USA #3 burners.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 23.8 cm, total height with chimney 51.8 cm.
