L.159

My wife Maria and I love butterflies. And that is also the simple reason why I bought this lamp, which in itself has no special features, at auction. The majolica vase is hand-painted in beautiful, bright, yet colourful colours, and in the middle of it flaunts a great butterfly!

But the problem was with the font: the original glass font, which was probably broken, had been replaced with a glass jug (probably for coffee cream)! I had to replace it with a real font for kerosene/paraffin lamps. For this I bought the lid of a majolica lamp with the cemented glass font. I sawed off the ceramic lid piece by piece and neatly separated the glass font (see the subchapter Working on Glass, Ceramics and Stones, at Repairs in General Information). I then glued this font into the lid of this lamp with 2-component epoxy filler.

I replaced the supplied, defective Kosmos burner with a 15’’’ flame disc burner from Hugo Schneider. The Vesta shade with its intense turquoise-green colour is certainly unusual for kerosene/paraffin lamps; it was probably made for electric lamps in the second half of the 20th century. My wife and I like it precisely because of this colour and therefore it remains with this lamp.
