L.181

A rather plain glass lamp with a very charming combination of two different colours: The foot part is opaque white, rather alabaster-coloured; and the font, in contrast, is made of transparent glass in cranberry colour.

This glass font is exactly the reason why I count this lamp among the Austrian lamps. It is exactly the glass font with the conical, faceted cut wall, which can be seen very often at the lamps by R. Ditmar. I also have several lamps with this font in different sizes, but always made of colourless glass. The burner that comes with the lamp is also by Ditmar. However, what prevented me from immediately dubbing this lamp as a lamp by R. Ditmar is the fact that the same font was also often used by Lámpa-Gyár in Budapest. The lamp could therefore come from these two producers. However, it does not appear in any catalogue. I simply leave it in the collection as an Austrian lamp.

The base/column combination is already unusual, because unlike other glass lamps, which have round, multi-stepped shapes, here it is vertically ribbed. On the column is a transition piece of colourless, transparent glass.

The font itself is in cranberry colour (darker pink or raspberry red), faceted cut and stepped. The perfectly matching tulip shade came from France. Unfortunately, it does not go over the wide bulge of the Vienna chimney; but I put up with that because the colours match very well.

The flat burner is from R. Ditmar. I bought the matching, marked Vienna chimney later. The result is a simple but classically beautiful lamp with a very attractive colour.
