This lamp is my first tall pillar lamp from Great Britain, presumably by Evered & Co. as the font collar is marked as such. It came with a fine engraved tulip shade, which unfortunately broke in an accident along with the Duplex chimney. Fortunately, the font survived the accident.

The pedestal and column are very typically British; however, instead of a Corinthian column of vertically ribbed brass, a marble column with ornamental mounts of sheet brass flaunts here. At first glance, the font looks as if it were made of elaborately hand-cut crystal glass, but it is actually made of pressed glass. Nevertheless, it looks solemn and fits well with the lamp.

To replace the broken tulip shade, I used a tulip from Vianne. The tulip shade is very finely etched in two stages and bears floral motifs in Art Nouveau style. Due to its smaller opening, it unfortunately does not fit over a Duplex chimney. I was able to remedy this shortcoming sometime later by replacing the supplied Hinks burner without a gallery lifter with a Duplex burner from Evered. This burner has a lifting mechanism and so the tulip shade can now stay on the lamp without worry. Now the collar and the burner (both from Evered) also fit together perfectly.

Base of decorated cast brass, square, 14 x 14 cm, Ø 195 mm. Under the base an iron weight, marked: C&S, 104.
Column of straight turned whitish marble and brass mounts.
Font of colourless, transparent, heavy pressed glass with diamond cut pattern, diagonally ribbed at the top, Ø 162 mm, removable. Bayonet collar marked: Evered & Compy. Ld. Patent.

Burner:
Duplex burner of Evered & Co., Birmingham, bayonet fitting, with gallery lifter and extinguisher. Firmly combined with the globe holder.
Two wick knobs marked: Evered & Co.Lim.d London Birm.m. Black glass inlays.
Cap bridge marked: Evered & Co. Li. Patent.
Two flat wicks, each 26 mm. Additional transport wick.

Glass chimney:
Duplex chimney with oval bulge. Height 252 mm, Ø fitter 65 mm.
Marked: Griffin Fireproof Foreign + griffin.

Shade and shade holder:
Tulip shade by Vianne, frosted glass, light cranberry top, colourless bottom, cameo-etched flowers, fluted top rim. Lipped fitter.
Height 170 mm, Ø fitter 97 and top rim 195 mm.
100 mm globe holder for 20’’’ burners, marked: Rd. 141682; integral part of the burner.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 59.3 cm, total height with chimney 89.2 cm.
